GPI was founded in 1951 as the Metal Etching & Fabricating Association (MEFA).  With the advent of new materials, processes, products, and technologies, in 1968 our name was changed to the National Association of Nameplate Manufacturers, Inc. (NAME).  In 1994, our name was updated to the National Association of Graphic and Product Identification Manufacturers, Inc. (GPI). 

Staying on the cutting edge, that’s how GPI has prospered for over 50 years.  GPI provides its members with industry statistical reports, educational meeting programs, and outlets to share common problems and solutions.  These are just some of the ways GPI is helping its members. 

Our Mission

Our mission is to support your business in the form of: 

• Business and technical programs;
• Information sharing and dissemination of pertinent industry statistics;
• Development of industry standards and practices;
• Promoting the general welfare of the industries that manufacture and sell identification and related products;
• Identifying and resolving problems common to these industries; and
• Promoting communications from our suppliers on new materials, equipment and processes.
